Bio-Inspired Search Algorithms, History, a Little Mess, and a Brief User Guide

Efrén Mezura-Montes

Efrén Mezura-Montes is the Head of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, Universidad Veracruzana. He is interested in designing and studying algorithms inspired by nature to solve computational learning and optimization problems. He has published over 200 articles and three books, and his work has been cited more than 10,700 times, as reported on the Google Scholar site.

Dr. Mezura-Montes is a Level III member of the National System of Researchers, a regular member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and the Mexican Academy of Computing, vice president of the Mexican Society of Computer Science, and a member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Network CONAHCyT of Applied Computational Intelligence.

Dr. Mezura-Montes is an Associate Editor of eight specialized JCR journals and a member of international IEEE technical committees on Artificial Intelligence. He received the Medal of Merit from the Universidad Veracruzana 2024 and the State Prize for Science and Technology 2023 in Veracruz. He has also given keynote lectures in India, Australia, France, Brazil, Spain, Bolivia, and Argentina.

 

 

Bio-Inspired Search Algorithms, History, a Little Mess, and a Brief User Guide

This talk briefly introduces bio-inspired search from a historical perspective, focusing on evolutionary and swarm intelligence algorithms. It then discusses the emergence of several approaches based on diverse metaphors, highlighting their pros and cons. Finally, it presents some recommendations for selecting the most suitable bio-inspired search algorithms.
